Charles's magic wand
« on: March 09, 2016, 06:50:44 PM »
I have received so much pleasure from my AR80 and there is little I would change other than expand it.  So if I had the magic wand and could change the AR into anything I wanted, I would most likely add all of the features of the Yamaha Tyros 5 keyboard.  I have selected 4 features (not in any order) that I find particularly fascinating.  The following demos are ones that I found on YouTube and may not be the best examples of each feature so you may want to search for other examples.   Try searching for: Tyros 5 Peter Baartmans

1. Demo choir voices:

    Including sounds like:
       ShooBeeDooBah
       DoBeDoBe
       BaDaYah
       WhatShouldWeDo

2. String Quartet

Select 4 instruments and each will intelligently play its part of each chord:
         Trumpet-1 plays the top note
         Trumpet-2 plays the second note
         Sax plays the third note
         Trombone plays the lowest note

3. Humanizing the performance

Humanizing utilizes parameters which humanize the performance by reproducing the subtle variations in timing heard in a
   real ensemble.

4. Articulated Voices

These are refined voices that allow increased expressiveness by how hard and fast a note is played.

I would also add 3-way splitting of each keyboard and maybe 2-way on the pedals as well.

I should add that I do not have a Tyros 5.  I have only listened to them on YouTube.

Charles,

I have been watching the videos you have LINKED to and I too find the 'adjustments' you can make to voices quite fascinating.  But I think the complexity of the Tyros 5 makes it an instrument I would never manage to get to grips with.  For starters, you would have to know in advance what effect you are trying to create in order to do it.

Oh well ...
